What do you get for the girl who just lost everything?
OK, maybe that's a little dramatic… What do you get
for the girl who sure feels like she just lost everything? If you really want to show her you care, take a few tips
from us — let's just say we have a "friend" who knows the pain of a serious split. Here's what won't work: saying things like, "I don't know what to say," or, "everything happens for a reason," or the old standby, "you were too good for him."
Because talk is cheap, offer some heartfelt gifts instead. While no heartache is alike, something from this break up basket is
bound to help her heal. |

She can't find her bathrobe in all the boxes from the move, or his smell still lingers
on her current robe (they used to share it). Either way this is no way to live –
jumping out of the shower into the frosty air with just a tiny towel is one more cold
shock that she doesn't need. When picking her robe, avoid the long shabby cat
lady options. Make sure, just in case she decides to live in it for a spell, that if the
pizza man shows up and he's not half bad, she won't feel any shame. With this
Oscar de la Renta design, when she's eating take out alone on a Saturday night,
at least she'll look elegant while doing so.
Oscar de la Renta "Simply Elegant" Robe, $96

She definitely needs some pep in her step. We don't know any girl who wouldn't
like a new pair of sequined slippers — single or attached. This pair is a delicate
and fairly cheap reminder of Dorothy's tale and the magic out there — and maybe
when she closes her eyes and taps her toes she can pretend she's somewhere
else. Like far, far over the rainbow, way, way away from him.

It's really one the best gifts you can give a gal, and it serves as a reminder
of the finer things in life. Wrap her in your love and warmth with this very cool,
drape-y "what me, dumped?" cardigan. But do her a favor – please resist the
urge to buy anything labeled as a "boyfriend sweater." Let's not spoil good
cashmere with a reminder of him.
Aqua Cashmere Long Open Cardigan, $168
She needs music in her life more than ever, but she doesn't need some
complicated system that she would have to gasp — call a guy to help her install.
While you're at it, make her some restorative playlists — we think Pink and Kelly Clarkson made some of the best break up records of the year. If it's way too
soon for break-up themed mixes, go with a little Lady Gaga, for distracting, pointless, uppity pop that will get her moving.

The aromatherapy will do her good, and anything you can do to beautify her lonely
nights is a step in the right direction. Feng shui manuals will encourage her to
surround herself with flickering, glittery light, because when she fills her room with
candles, she's filling it with positive energy. We like this one because it's called
Serenity, and that's something she could use an overdose of right now.
Serenity Candle, $26
She's gonna need every last drop! But seriously, a wine basket is a lovely gift to
send her, and a glass of wine in the tub is a cheap way to make her feel like she's
taking care of herself. Say something on the card like "Cheers to you! You're
perfect." STEER clear of any gift basket that seems tailored for two. You want her
to sip and enjoy, not chug and cry.

Help her turn the page on this miserable time. While she will eventually feel better,
it’s important for her to document this time of painful – and eventually positive –
change. One day she’ll look back and she won’t recognize the girl who once
poured out her
pain on the pages of this beautiful journal.
Anthropologie “All My Thoughts & The Heart Talks” journal, $24
Even though she may not be ready to crawl out of her house and go to Bikram
class, this will encourage her to move and meditate in the comfort of her own
home. Once her blood's flowing and her muscles are warmed up, she'll start to
think about moving on.
Sacred Yoga Practice: Vinyasa Flow for Beginners, $16 |
