Glossy, silky hair like the kind on the movie screens seems feasible, right? But somehow, our hair rarely hits that perfect level of shine - it either veers toward fry-an-egg-on-the-head greasy or toward the other end of the spectrum - drab. So we went on a mission to get our hair shiny and healthy looking; along the way we uncovered new product obsessions, easy-to-follow dietary tips and some simple styling tricks.

What do these three ladies have in common other than talent and beauty? Healthy-looking, shiny hair. For hair that's as luscious as Sandra Bullock's, Kate Bosworth's and Beyonce's, follow these six shine-enhancing tips:

You've had a good run with that plastic pink dryer from high school, but it's time to upgrade. A dryer with ionic technology (like the T3) can help smooth hair and add shine. (When the hair's cuticle lies flat, there's more surface area for light to reflect and the hair looks shinier.) Take the time to blow-dry your hair with a brush – and make sure it's thoroughly dry; frizz does not equal shine.

It's not just for your vodka – Kelly van Gogh Wonderlust Hair Color Illuminating Tonic did an amazing job revitalizing our hair color, and the mica minerals reflect light to give the hair a gorgeous shine. We especially suggest this for highlights that may be a bit drab.

That's right, hydrate from the inside out. Water is essential for keeping your hair (and skin) healthy and hydrated. And Omega-3s also help lift your hair's luster level; eat more wild salmon, avocados and almonds and you'll see more sheen to your hair.

We know it sounds a bit crazy to put oil on the hair, but the latest hair oils, like Macadamia Nut Oil and Moroccan Oil penetrate quickly into the hair and scalp and add a beautiful amount of glossiness. Stars from Debra Messing to Salma Hayek are using it on their tresses – and the beauty of these oils is that they work on every hair type, not just thick, full manes like theirs.

Don't throw your clarifying shampoo away, but limit using it to once every 10 days or so. They strip the hair of natural oils (and gunk that's built up, so they do have a purpose); instead add a shine shampoo into the rotation. Two that we love are C-Tonics Tranquility and Aveeno Nourish + Shine Shampoo - both shampoos made our hair look and feel gorgeous, plus we easily went for two days between washes.

We may not have attended finishing school, but we do know how to finish off a hairstyle: with Pureology NanoWorks ShineLuxe. This light-weight polish not only gives the hair brilliant, long-lasting shine, it also rejuvenates the hair and protects color.
