Toronto electro dance-rock trio, Lioness are attacking the states for the first time ever, hitting New York City two nights in a row and tossing in a performance in music-loving Philly. Vanessa Fischer, Jeff Scheven and Ronnie Morris released their self-titled debut EP in late 2008 and then brought on their popular remix projects; Omens, Oracle & Signs Vol. 1, and Omens, Oracle & Signs Vol. 2 earlier this year. Considering DIY art group has already supported shenanigans-heavy acts like !!!, K-os and You Say Party! We Say Die! - you bet your booty you don’t wanna miss out on this party. Blush talked to head singer/lioness Vanessa about what to expect from their rousing live shows.

The three of you were involved in other music projects before Lioness. How did you guys meet and decide to form a band together?

We were all in projects that were slowly winding down. I played in a band called No Dynamics and Jeff and Ronnie in controller.controller. Jeff and Ronnie have been playing music together since highschool and Jeff and I have been together for 5 years. It was a natural course of action.

Why the decision to come down to the U.S.? Any plans for some West Coast shows anytime soon or are you sticking mostly with Canada?

I love the music scene in New York, it's a quicker drive then most major Canadian cities. It lends its ear to such great sound and vegetarian food in New York is amazing! Hopefully we'll do the 5 day drive to the west soon. I'd love to play in L.A and San Fran.

You recently released the second volume of your remix projects; is there a new album in the works?

Yes. We have been working on a lot of new songs. I hope will we have it out before the end of the year.

Your sound’s known for being sans-guitar, but are you looking to add any other instruments?

We have our friend Joseph play saxophone with us on occasion. It adds an interesting layer. I think it would be great one day to play with a full band and back-up singers.

Your MySpace page describes your sound like “your ear cells dying”; interesting description—what else would be an example of the sound of dying ear cells?

A sound cannon forcing protesters off the streets of downtown Toronto.

You’re known for your DIY style in producing your own sound and crafting your own costumes, videos and photos; what’s your favorite part of creating everything that goes into Lioness’ sound and performances?

My favorite part of creating these auxiliary elements is knowing that I had some part of it. It's very special to be involved from inception.

What type of music inspires your sound?

A lot of different music inspires me at different times. Currently I am inspired by the sadness of Nina Simone's voice. The witchy world of Kate and Siouxsie. And the strangeness of the Liars.

How do you craft your sound to make it both organic and synthetic with the electronic style fused with the live instruments?

Very carefully.

You guys started out performing in low-key locales, but as you generate more buzz, any dream venues?

We played one of my dream venues last September in Toronto. Massey Hall with The Cult. I would love to play Carnegie Hall or the Casino de Paris.

What can fans expect from your live shows- how is the experience bigger and better than the album itself?

Fans can expect a little death and magic. Big hair, big amps, big sound.
